This website is run by the UK Civil Aviation Authority. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  1. The alt-text on the ATOL logo in the navigation bar is incorrect and doesn't match what is displayed visually. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 Text Alternatives.
  2. There are some empty fieldsets, missing legends, date pickers are not announced by the screen reader and there are a number of broken aria references through the portal. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 Info & Relationships.
  3. When styles are removed there are some sections displayed that are not relevant. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence.
  4. Text on the navigation bar and some text within the form is below minimum colour contrast. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum).
  5. Some help content is not read out by the screen reader. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus.
  6. Some help features cannot be accessed using the keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard.
  7. All the pages in the claims form have the same page title. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.2 Page titled.
  8. Some of the labels are not as descriptive as necessary. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.6 Headings and labels.
  9. The focus indicator around the text fields and some buttons throughout the form is too subtle. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.7 Focus visible.
  10. The accessible name of the Choose file button on the file upload does not match the visible label. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.5.3 Label in Name.
  11. Some of the radio buttons and checkboxes throughout the form do not meet the minimum target size. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.5.8 Target Size (minimum).
  12. Error messages are only shown at the top of the page and not in close enough proximity to the specific fields. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.3.1 Error Identification.
  13. Some sections are missing instructions on required input. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.3.2 Labels or instructions.
  14. Status message updates cause the focus to move from the expected location. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.3 Status messages.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Following the audit conducted on 23rd September 2024, the Civil Aviation Authority are working to fix content which fails to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard.  The next release to address accessibility issues is currently planned for March 2025
